Dual Core
Finally, it seems AmigaOS4 will get Dual Core, ExecSG was demoed at Amiwest 2026 that finally X5000 owners will unlock there second core so that apps can run on core 0 or core 1. Other AmigaOne system like the X1000, A1222 will be next, and it hopes that this will be released to users shortly.
AROS4
But ExecSG and AmigaOS4 got competition, AROS4 has been announced, which effectually wants to become an open source alternative to AmigaOS4 and be able to run AmigaOS4 apps. Browsers & Apps
Even more amazingly Amiga platform is finally getting better internet support, thanks to Amelinium, which is already on version 1.5, it amazing how well it handles the modern websites. PowerFox I also read maybe coming across to AmigaOs4, this is firefox PPC browser designed for old PowerMacs. Amibench (amigakit) also has a modern browser built into it system and is getting better all the time.
But its not just this gaming changing app, if you’re in the creative world, there two applications suit is pointed to more than any, Adobe software, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Indesign, etc and then Microsoft Office suit, Word, Excel, etc. Well welcome to Art Craft, an opensource alternative that aims to have all the features of these applications in there suit and the more nutty thing is already a alpha versions of these apps have been shown off to be working on AmigaOs4 and AROS. AI NUTS
So I know some dont like Ai, and I get that there can be some slop out there, and I do worry about quality control, the sheer amount coming out, how copyright and re-engined software is going to maybe destroy a lot of jobs and software companies. Developers who spent 1,000s of hrs working on games and software titles, to maybe now get over looked by Ai software or worst, see there work recreated by AI. Plus Im overlooking the Climate impact of Ai data centre, and the damage its doing to the chip market. But even after saying all that, i cant help but feel where in very interesting times. Who know where this leads.
